Woo, so excited for you! *like* 😀 (There you go!)
oh Tom. <3
IT IS SO TERRIBLE. Tho’ I could so hook him up if he’s genuinely curious (tragedy of MLP fandom = tragedy of furry fandom: most of the best artists do pronz).
I think he’s more fascinated than truly curious, although he keeps threatening to go home, open a bottle of wine, and drink it while he sates his curiosity. if he does end up wanting to see real quality stuff I’ll hit you up for reccs. 🙂
I have a fantastic list of one-liner ideas collected over the years. every time I look at one, a fully-realized world springs into my head. I don’t commit to any of them, though. I stare at the list and wish I had more time, even while I waste it scrolling up and down and up and down.
universe, grant me the patience to stick with good ideas, and the wisdom to know which ones suck.
You know the solution, even if you don’t want to hear it.
Start writing. If it sucks, even if you’ve written 10,000 words, salvage what you can and scrap.
You can never know if it’ll be good or not until it’s done.
but Tooooooooommmmmmmm
well, my lovelies, it’s happened. on Saturday (December 29), I finished the first draft of A God Grown Old. I immediately saved it as a PDF and converted it for my Kindle, then left it alone.
because this phase is about resting.
this phase is about falling asleep on an idea. about softly sighing into the dark about the inconsistencies and listening for the answers in your imagination. about making peace with your flaws and your novel’s flaws. this phase is for finding the joyous spark of research and brainstorming again, for seeking out those first readers, for facing the reality of what comes next.
I don’t know how I’ll do, chopping up my baby. she’s short already (just over 65k words) and in my heart, she’s complete. but she’s not. A God Grown Old has much growing to do before it has aged into something I can proudly show the world.
for now, I rest.
(and by rest I mean start brainstorming and researching the next novel! which is as of yet untitled but will appeal to fans of science fiction, smut, and philosophy.)
“science fiction, smut, and philosophy”
Oh, gurl.
You hittin’ all the sweet spots, aren’t you?
THOMAS YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW I am so excited about this one.
it started out as this random post-apocalyptic smut that I was writing for Jake on the regular, just to get him through the day, and he was liking it so much as a progressive story I thought, hell, I’ll see what happens if I expand this. I started using this process from the book “The 90-Day Novel,” which gives you almost an entire month of nothing but brainstorming and structuring, and after just TWO DAYS the idea has blossomed. I would eat this book up if someone else was writing it.
okay okay enough about my ideas, you’re here for…oh, well, probably my ideas. XD
#oh woe is me #a lifetime of pre-reading for awesome people
Cannot wait for this one! (And I plan on doing both a novella and a children’s book this year, if you’re interested in pre-reading for someone else! I’ve had the idea for this kids’ book, especially, for a while now.)
yes to the please! I’d love to pre-read for you. send it over when it’s done, and let me know when you need some pants-kicking. 😉
I can totally help with 1 and 5.
1) First, be prepared to drop monies, because it’s all specialty ingredients. XD (Also, I have Padma Lakshmi’s cookbook and zomg, so good).
5) You can test recipes on my kids if you want.
Also, feel free to use 3 on us, if you like. 😛
excellent! we’ll take you up on the testing, I’m sure. and yeah, I knowww. but a lot of it is stuff I can keep for a while, it’ll just be an up-front cost. and if I like it, it’s a good investment!
mls-classics answered: Still… Swelling-John-Williams-score kind of finale? Or more soft, heartbroken, etc etc?
somewhere in between. it’s gotta cover the general emotion range from mortal combat to “oshit just killed my bff” which is asking a lot of a song, I know. XD
sonicscribblings said: Hrm… I never thought of it that way. Still, I sort of wish I were a redhead >.>
red would definitely be my second choice, and I’ve even dyed it once to try it out. but when it comes down to it, the brown is invisible, and I do so appreciate invisibility…
*humbly disagrees*
*fluffs brown mane*
but it’s different on dudes! brown hair on the ladies was almost universally described as “dull” or “mousey” in every book I read as a child. maybe I was just reading the wrong literature, but.
and um. have you seen Jake’s hair? XD
*fluffs your mane some more*
