how’d I do?

heh, halfway through January I remember to take a look back at my 2013 goals:

  • learn how to drive – FAILED. wish I could say it was barely a fail, but it was a pretty spectacular fail.
  • edit God Grown Old – FAILED.
  • obtain film credit more significant than PA – SUCCEEDED. assistant director on Band in Seattle.
  • continue to improve dancing abilities – SUCCEEDED. I’d be comfortable going to a club and not feeling like an idiot. that was basically the goal.
  • exercise at least 4x per week – I’m going to say I FAILED. if only because winter came and I stopped being so consistent. I did exercise at least twice a week every week, though.
  • read 50 books – FAILED. I read 30 though.
  • learn to make non-alcoholic beverages – FAILED, but I can mix tasty ratios with whatever we’ve got.
  • add another sort of exercise to my routine – SUCCEEDED…pole dancing.
  • stay somewhere other than the apartment at least once every six weeks – FAILED. we saved money instead.
  • maintain my current raise schedule – SUCCEEDED.
  • help Jake get his Shit Your Kids Will Eat cookbook made – FAILED. but he’s arting like nuts now and I consider that a success.
  • designate and fill a notebook for each major novel idea – SUCCEEDED, because Scrivener.
  • plan the wedding without it being a major stressor – SUCCEEDED.
  • participate in NaNoWriMo – SUCCEEDED. resoundingly. 😀
  • keep faithful notes on any ideas I develop this year – SUCCEEDED. I even organized/typed up all my old ideas.
  • remember to take my supplements regularly – FAILED.
  • keep the room and bathroom clean – SUCCEEDED, thanks to Jake.

overall, not bad for the craziest year in memory…

man it was an incredible night.

I haven’t been back to Victory since I started at Microsoft, not for more than a few minutes. it was so great to see everyone. I really missed Nolan in particular, and he was practically dancing over my arrival.

and the stage – GOD, the stage!  it used to be rugs and a platform. now it looks like this:

the two bands were actually really great. one was rock, the other was (I kid you not) funk. by the end of it half the audience was actually dancing.

I kept digging my nails into my palms whenever I wasn’t live-tweeting. the shots looked so good. Nolan was in his element. cut cut fade two go two four go four one go one two go two and so on.

there’s nothing like the energy on set.

afterwards, I walked out of the control room into Jake’s arms and cried a little as he kissed me on the forehead and said, “only took me 31 months, darlin’.”

he promised me when we met that he’d help me fulfill my dream of being part of a TV show.

well.

I’m still glowing.

tea schedule:

  • morning: green tea and herbal lemon tea over ice
  • afternoon: black tea and caffeinated lemon tea over ice
  • evening: Earl Grey tea over ice, with a splash of cream

it might seem a little like cheating, but goals ought to evolve, so here goes nothing now that life is calming down:

  • learn how to drive – still not confident, but every time I do get behind the wheel I feel better about it. we’re also looking at second vehicles for the end of this year/early next year so there’s more motivation
  • get good at drawing people – funny story, I wanted to be able to do character art, but now that Jake’s decided to learn drawing I’m going to leave this one to him
  • edit God Grown Old – Anna is reading it right now! (she says.)
  • obtain film credit more significant than PA – Band in Seattle should start back up here pretty soon and I’m going to be assistant director 😀
  • continue to improve dancing abilities – helllllls to the yes. I can actually do basic club moves now without looking like a moron!!
  • give a handmade gift to Important People – so far I’ve only managed to make something for Em but I’m sure I’ll get crafty again
  • exercise at least 4x per week – back on track
  • read 50 books – Game of Thrones really slowed me down. I’m at 16/50, 10 books behind. luckily I think it’s brain candy time for a while. I’m not going to alter this until I know it’s a lost cause haha
  • learn to cook Indian food with legit spices and techniques learn to make non-alcoholic beverages – I’m changing this, because right now getting both Jake and I to drink more healthy beverages is crucial
  • add another sort of exercise to my routine – we’re buying a rowing machine soon! (yay MSoft reimbursement!)
  • go on a summer road trip stay somewhere other than the apartment at least once every six weeks – wrestling down debt means long trips aren’t yet feasible, but escapes are!
  • maintain my current raise schedule – HA. ha ha ha ha ha. ha. hahaha. ha. 😀
  • help Jake get his Shit Your Kids Will Eat cookbook made – no movement
  • finish my role-playing character notebook – no movement
  • designate and fill a notebook for each major novel idea – just procured my traditional “back to school sale” stash of 5 college-ruled notebooks for $1
  • plan the wedding without it being a major stressor – check and CHECK!!!! 😀
  • participate in Camp NaNoWriMo in July participate in NaNoWriMo – little did I know July would be consumed by work. instead I’ve solidified my NaNo idea for the year and have three months to outline…
  • have treatments for all decent show/movie ideas, in case someone is interested keep faithful notes on any ideas I develop this year – I can write a treatment in five seconds. better that I keep my thoughts in order
  • remember to take my supplements regularly – managed to remember this morning
  • keep the room and bathroom clean – Jake has been the most amazing and has kept things incredibly clean for us, so this one falls on him now <3

omg it is decidedly unsweet but absolutely delicious

need: 1 green tea bag, 1 small can/8 oz white grapefruit juice. steep tea in half water for five minutes. cool with ice cubes. mix and enjoy

hello, halfway mark! (not quite. I guess that’s the end of this month. who’s counting?) time to check in on my goals.

  • learn how to drive –  slacking on this a bit! I’m being lazier than I would be if I hadn’t gotten the new job, since I’ll be able to take the Connector and it will mean (fingers crossed) more productivity. however, during my week-between-jobs, I’m hoping to get in some good drive time. including in CA-NAA-DAAAAA.
  • get good at doodling humans – whoops.
  • edit God Grown Old – haven’t touched it in a while, and both my siblings completely ignored it. luckily I have Anna and with our powers combined I might even get excited about it again!
  • obtain film credit more significant than PA – there’s another episode of Jake’s studio’s music show coming up, so I should get to be in the control room again. I’m super stoked.
  • continue to improve dancing abilities – I’m dancing after this. no joke. boy’s request.
  • give a handmade gift to Important People – another thing I might start tonight, while we watch Ghosts of the Abyss.
  • exercise at least 4x per week – slackerrrrrrr. (unless you count the naked activities. then I’m doin’ juuuust fine.)
  • read 50 books – goddammit. I’m stuck on Cryptonomicon. it’s so fucking long. at any rate…I’m 7 books behind…hoping to get some serious read time in this weekend while we watch the house.

so that’s a little disappointing, but – I’ve certainly MORE than kept up with my raise pace, which is going to be a huge part of making sure all the rest of these things can happen. and, of course, the wedding is not just planned, it’s finalized – at least the courthouse part. three weeks from tomorrow. omg.

No Equipment? No Excuses: 20 Exercises You Can Do At Home

No Equipment? No Excuses: 20 Exercises You Can Do At Home

I have now successfully driven around the neighborhoods and gotten up to 40 mph while merging into traffic.

oh hey, is it March already? guess that means it’s time to do a quick check-up on my goals for the year.

  • learn how to drive –  just finished the driver’s manual yesterday! I should get to take the permit test in the next couple of weeks, and we’re obtaining a second vehicle soon here so that I can practice on something other than our beautiful Six.
  • get good at doodling humans – no real progress here. I did pick up my iPad for doodling last night.
  • edit God Grown Old – I’m not far from the end of my initial reader’s read-through.
  • obtain film credit more significant than PA – have I mentioned that a) Jake’s coworker wants to train me as an assistant director and b) Jake’s boss has made me head of his official writing team for a couple of shows? yeah. yeeeahhhh.
  • continue to improve dancing abilities – been slacking on this.
  • give a handmade gift to Important People – still waiting to get my supplies and space back when we move, so I’m thinking this officially starts in June/July.
  • exercise at least 4x per week – I haven’t been keeping track anywhere, but I’ve been keeping up at least 3x per week. more like 4x, most weeks.
  • read 50 books – Goodreads says I’m 2 books ahead of schedule as of today, and I’ve read 10 so far.

and wedding planning has been slowly and un-stressfully progressing. I’m pleased.

so, all in all, I’ve been pretty good! I’ve been hella busier than I expected with my main job and several side projects, but I’ve managed to keep my own goals pretty well on track in the midst of it. and now as the weather gets nicer it’ll get harder to actually procrastinate (so she says). onward!
