it’s my really good friend Nikki’s last day at ~the company~ today and I’m going to miss her like crazy. (she’s off to 18F in San Francisco to save the world. she’ll be amazing at it.)

we became friends because the moment she walked into the room (incidentally, it was the meeting with Mr. Shoes), I decided she was probably the most interesting person I’d yet encountered at ~the company~. I regretted not being able to say anything to her at the time, but that afternoon, we were both at an unrelated event, so because I didn’t want to miss my opportunity again, I walked up to her and said, “hi, we’re going to be really good friends.” literally, that is what I said. it reminded me quite a bit of Stiefvater’s dubious life advice. truth is, it’s one of the most solid friendships I’ve ever acquired. I highly recommend this method (with the right people).

anyway, as you can see from the pictures, we find each other incredibly amusing. have I mentioned she’s brilliant? she’s brilliant. we can’t even be in the same room for fifteen minutes without brainstorming a new project. we’re that kind of friend. we finish each other’s sentences.

the other day, we went on a long walk. around the middle she punched me in the shoulder and announced that because we’ve moved to casual touching, we must be close. then after just a beat, she asked how long I’ve foreseen that we’re going to be friends. no hesitation: I said “the rest of our lives.” it’s one of those friendships.
