Battlestar Galactica – Miniseries – Thoughts & Comments

analyticaddict:

I promised a quick post of my thoughts and comments on the miniseries/first two episodes of BSG, so here goes.

  • I’m still learning some characters. By the second hour, I got most of the main character’s names. Their relationships I got immediately, but names take a bit longer. I wanted to complain that there were too many characters, but I’m a huge Song of Ice and Fire fan and that series has a million and one characters and I know their names and their houses and their ranks and their crests, so I guess I can handle a shipful of characters.
  • Kara Thrace – Everyone loves Starbuck. I mean really, really loves Starbuck. I like her so far, but I’m not crazy in love just yet. It’s just the beginning though.
  • President Roslin – now her, I love. What a HBIC. She’s 43rd in line and still becomes president. She was the Secretary of Education, she wasn’t ready for this and at no point did she ever think she’d become president. And then she just steps up to the plate and is amazing at it. Lee goes to stop her and then he’s like nope not messing with her she’s in charge yes ma’am madam president.
  • I like Lee’s face. That is a nice face.
  • I love the Earth myth. At first I thought this was some sort of post-earth world. That we screwed things up and humanity had to go out into the stars, a la Firefly or Doctor Who. But then we find out that humanity exists completely separate from Earth and that Earth itself is just a myth, a promise Commander Adama makes to placate what’s left of the population.
  • I also love how the Galactica only survives because it’s outdated and was going to be turned into a museum. Those things didn’t get the update and therefore weren’t compromised.
  • Fucking Gaias. Oh my god this guy. He’s so narcissistic and dumb, but a genius and you can’t hate him even though so much of this is his fault because he thinks with his penis. He’s the Oh, Honey of BSG.
  • Damn. Boomer is a cylon. That’s such a cool twist, because she’s been painted so far as the humane one. The one who decides to take refuges even though her ship can’t hold much. The one who takes in the kid after his parents die. And she’s the robot.
  • I would watch a show that was nothing but Tricia Helfer talking to the screen. That is all.
