If a 10-watt LED bulb replaced all the 60-watt incandescent bulbs in the U.S., it could save about $3.9 billion in the country’s annual electric bill.
I love these, and I’m planning to get some. I did, however, read a fascinating story this morning about the growth of the electricity sector in this country. used to be that there was a pretty constant 8% yearly growth, but now it’s only projected to be 0.6% over the next 8 years. innovations like these will render the utilities companies even more unnecessary (unless someone gets their ass into gear and makes a decent, long-range, fully-electric car somehow, and even then my guess is it would be primarily self-contained, but ANYWAY). a bit scary for anyone working those industries, but also encouraging in that a lot of electricity is created using environmentally turrible methods.
