survived the holidays, in no small part thanks to Jake, who has been such a trooper this month. well, this year. (this life if we’re gonna be honest here.)  throughout all of the caretaker drama, family obligations, and work stress, we’ve shared some of our deepest conversations and secrets and become even more obnoxiously one-brained than before. all it takes for us to communicate is a hand squeeze. that’s something I wished for all my life but dismissed as impossible and non-existent in this world. wasn’t I blessedly wrong.

People say, ‘What advice do you have for people who want to be writers?’ I say, they don’t really need advice, they know they want to be writers, and they’re gonna do it. Those people who know that they really want to do this and are cut out for it, they know it.

Great! Now that you finished the easy part:

BigFinish.com

And just when you think it’s safe to assume you’ve experienced all things Who, feel free to enjoy some light reading.

And then if you’re bored one day you can check out the comics.

This is why I don’t need Doctor Who fanfiction.

Because there’s already tons of legal Doctor Who fanfiction

And if you want to rest your eyes after all that watching and reading, why not treat your ears to some easy listening?

Want to do something on your computer? No problem!

But hey, what if you just want to watch some more TV to relax? serve yourself!

Doctor Who is sort of like the TARDIS. From the outside you might think it’s just 7 Seasons worth of TV but then when you step inside it never ends.

THIS IS THE PERFECT POST.

When we at Casa Loma there was a dad horsey trotting down the stairs with his daughter on his shoulders, and his son and wife behind him. His son was trying to rattle down the stairs at the same pace so his wife called out warningly “Jack, settling an example.” and he said “Setting the bar!”

I’m sure this would be very annoying if he were my husband but he’s not so it was funny.

everyone just likes to talk about how “chill” arnold was and just reminisce on the days when they used to watch hey arnold when they were 7 and how good it was etc etc but it’s not until you watch it later on when you begin to realize that it’s not a good show purely because of nostalgic value, but it is a good show purely becauseit is a good show.a lot of shows don’t hold up, i mean like i freely admit some of the stuff i liked as a kid is not good and upon rewatching it as an “adult” i realize yeah this doesn’t hold up

but i appreciate hey arnold a lot more now than i did as a kid. i’ve always loved it but you never quite realize just how … like, groundbreaking it is. it featured probably one of the biggest cast of characters i’ve ever seen and each character was unique in their own way. they had realistic, flawed, rounded personalities and problems. the setting was also unique—almost every show i’ve seen takes place in the suburbs of someplace and the families are almost always upper-middle-class but hey arnold takes place in the inner city. arnold lives in a boarding house where many of the residents struggle to pay rent.

on top of that, arnold isn’t even necessarily the “main character” of his own show. there are some episodes where he’s hardly present at all. he’s always there, but he’s not always the focus. almost every single character got at least one episode dedicated to them, and helga is one of the best fictional characters i’ve seen in my entire life

idk it’s just such a fucking good show and it doesn’t sugarcoat anything

helga has a shitty life. a really shitty life. not as shitty as it could be but it’s pretty bad. her parents are neglectful. her dad is a hot-headed businessman who has no time for his family and her mother is a depressed alcoholic who fell out of love with her husband. they only spend time paying attention to helga’s sister olga, who is completely out of touch with reality and strives to be as perfect as she can possibly be—which isn’t surprising, considering that’s the thing her parents bring up constantly—how perfect and great she is.

the episode “pigeon man” teaches us that sometimes people who don’t fit in just will never exactly fit in with everybody else—and it’s not their fault, it’s the fault of other people. the christmas episode depicts the fall of saigon during the vietnam war, “parents day” reveals that arnold’s parents went missing after their airplane vanished, etc etc. there are just so many stories that this show tells and it doesn’t sugarcoat one of them, not a single one. some episodes end up with everybody unhappy. sometimes the main conflict isn’t solved. at the end of “the list”, an incredibly upset arnold pouts on the rooftop of the boarding house, but his grandma sings an old song that says he should just look up whenever he’s feeling bad, and things will be okay. the main moral of the show, from what i have gathered, seems to be “really crappy things happen all the time, and there’s nothing you can do about it, but just keep looking up and you’ll find happiness hidden away somewhere” and i think that’s probably the best message you can give to people.

This appeals to my HA! feels that I’ve been having for the past week.

I love this show so hardcore. I remember seeing the pilot air in the theater before Harriet the Spy. This show is not just nostalgia for me, but was probably a huge therapeutic-like, honest cartoon that I could relate to sooooo much as a kid. <3

omfg it’s all on Netflix. I only got to see a few episodes of HA! as a child and oh MAN did I love it. especially Helga. she was the best character ever to get across the theme of “we all just want to be understood” without slamming it in your face with pretty speeches. I think it’s time for a thorough watching.
