Writers don’t write from experience, though many are resistant to admit that they don’t. I want to be clear about this. If you wrote from experience, you’d get maybe one book, maybe three poems. Writers write from empathy.

Tumblr fascinates me for a variety of reasons, but here’s a big one:

I just reblogged a picture of a girl hugging a fox. the girl is conventionally attractive (I think, I’m not necessarily a good judge of these things) and the fox is humanized in the eyes at least.

I reblogged it because I think it would be really cool to be friends with a (probably) talking fox.

someone else might reblog it because they’re attracted to the girl. others because they’re attracted to the fox. others because they need reference and inspiration for their art; others because they just find the picture pleasant aesthetically.
