500 Year Old Map of America Found Hidden in Book

Let’s see you do that with a Kindle, eh?

Trapped between the pages of a geometry book in the Munich University Library was this tiny map, dating from 1501-1502, of the earliest geography of “America”. The mapmaker Martin Waldseemüller had drawn up Amerigo Vespucci’s voyages, and this early draft somehow got lost along the way. It’s one of the oldest maps of the New World ever found.

America has gotten much bigger since 1501, which probably involved a lot of shovels.
