Today I was chatting with my mom on the phone about how I really, really want to borrow a dress of my sister’s for a special occasion even though she got it in Europe and as such it’s not replaceable. I was going back and forth on whether to even ask her, but my mom noted that if she didn’t want to lend it to me, she’d say so. Then, this cleverness:
“You know, you should just ahead of time settle on a price that, if anything were to happen to the dress, she’d be satisfied with and able to buy herself something equally wonderful, and that way she doesn’t have to worry and you don’t have to worry.”
This is so smart because the dollar value of the dress isn’t high, but it is one of her favorites. Obviously, this only works on someone you’re really close with, but it is a way around Step 129.
Thanks, mom!
