I promised I would post some of my Excel graphs from NaNo when the challenge was over, so here you go. The first is the goal of words per day and my actual standings, day by day. You can see that I fell behind on the third day and spent about 60% of the time below where I was supposed to be. But I was determined to hit 50k…and I finished at 60k.
The bottom graph is my words per day. There were 3 days I didn’t write at all and six days I wrote under 1000 words. But there was also a day I came close to 9000.
Using Excel to track my progress everyday did more to motivate me than the NaNo site did. The best part is, I can keep these graphs after November (the NaNo site doesn’t save them past a certain date) and I can even use them to track my progress through the rest of the novel, until it is finished.
I totally did this for 2010! except not quite so fancy. and instead of just me, I had a friend hold me accountable to my totals, and if I missed more than five days (my goal was 2000 per day), I owed him a drink.
I owed him exactly 0 drinks.
congrats again, Jez, and I can’t wait until you’ve got a finished product!
