how did I do on my goals for 2014? let’s find out…

(extra positivity inside – where I didn’t complete something, I went ahead and said what I did instead that was cool.)

  • edit and self-publish First Run – aiming for: up on Amazon by the end of August/beginning of September. actual: I’ve halfway paid an editor, and she has it right now, with an ETA of January for the completed first pass. so this’ll roll over into 2015, which is cool – book publishing always takes at least 3x what you intended/wanted.
  • faithfully write my chapters of Return to Elgin – no, but instead I wrote 50k words on another novel, Daugment.
  • get my license – no, but instead I relearned my scales and absorbed/practiced some music theory.
  • participate in the one-month game challenge – no, but instead I learned how to cook with Indian spices.
  • take my supplements regularly – no, and there’s no excuse.
  • exercise at least 4x weekly – I got pretty close to this, actually! I had a couple of hiatuses, but there were periods where I was a little more gentle with myself and I had to learn that too. but in general I walk at least three miles a day between meetings and such, and I dance or do yoga in between.
  • take a martial arts class – no, but instead I went rockclimbing for the first time in a decade.
  • read 35 books – check and check!
  • try at least one new recipe every week – I feel leaps and bounds more competent in the kitchen now. I did make at least one recipe per week, which I consider a win.
  • change my last name – check and check!
  • develop a novel concept with Patrick – no, but instead I became technical director for a talk show.
  • participate in NaNoWriMo 2014 – check. though I didn’t win, I’m really happy with the concept, and the (oft critical) people I’ve pitched it to have liked it as well.
  • help Jake get his short made – no, but instead I helped develop a trailer concept for my book that Jake and his animators are gonna make.
