I had lunch with my mom today, and she asked how work was going, so I was like, “well. everyone’s real intense right now since we have [big upcoming product] deadlines.”

and her eyes lit up and she was like, “oh yes! that’s going to be downloaded over the internet and just…appear for me, right?”

(so proud)

and I nodded and described the upgrade process and she goes

“so how much will that cost?”

…leaning forward, ready to pay whatever price, ready for it to suck…

and so it was with an immense amount of pride that I got to be the one to inform my mother that:

“it’ll be free. if you get it this year, you have it from now on.”

I am not wholesale on board with everything this company does do not get me wrong and yes there are ways they’re going to make money

but fuck. that was cool.

I talked to the woman who’s Officially In Charge of Cortana’s personality from the project management side, just to gauge the temperature of the waters so to speak… all good, all good, especially when she told me all the engineering teams are always like “we love working with August! she picks up the science of what we’re working on so quickly!!”
