“Smart comedy” doesn’t mean that it will make you smarter, but rather that it actually took some intelligence to create. What makes the NBC comedy so great is that week after week it features lines, jokes and situations that not only make the audience howl with laughter, but make your jaw drop in awe at the creativity and wit of the writers (not to mention every episode is densely layered, which makes each one infinitely rewatchable). The only explanation for the lack of viewership is that people aren’t watching television to be entertained anymore; they’re simply watching it as a diversion.
Make good stuff, then make it easy for people to buy it. There’s your anti-piracy plan.
Ugh. Can I just say.
I just read this line: “if you really like drawing it would be like killing a part of your soul to quit art.”
No. Someone might like creating. And, last I saw, you can do that in a million ways.
My creative play really took off when I was 6 and my older brother found my father’s suitcase full of old DnD books.
By middle school/high school, I was going to pursue art.
I had a falling out with art and pursued writing. And loved it. Somewhere in there I took up music, as well.
And now I’m back to art.
Will I sculpt next? Will I make paper-mache dead birds? Will I take up interpretive dance or decorative orange-peeling or perhaps just whistle made-up tunes to myself all day long?
The whole “A true artist…” crap is just that. :I
ACCURATE. I believe that even people who aren’t conventionally considered artistic can be artists. the way they put together the structure of a building can be art and creation. the way they press a fine shirt can be art and creation. the way they pare down an equation to its most crucial elements, a beautiful synergy of simplicity and complication, can be art and creation. art doesn’t mean pictures. art means expression. and some people express themselves through mediums other than pencils, tablets, and pieces of paper.
