The first is the goal of words per day and my actual standings, day by day. You can see that I fell behind on the third day and spent about 60% of the time below where I was supposed to be. But I was determined to hit 50k…and I finished at 60k.

The bottom graph is my words per day. There were 3 days I didn’t write at all and six days I wrote under 1000 words. But there was also a day I came close to 9000.

Using Excel to track my progress everyday did more to motivate me than the NaNo site did. The best part is, I can keep these graphs after November (the NaNo site doesn’t save them past a certain date) and I can even use them to track my progress through the rest of the novel, until it is finished.

I totally did this for 2010! except not quite so fancy. and instead of just me, I had a friend hold me accountable to my totals, and if I missed more than five days (my goal was 2000 per day), I owed him a drink.

I owed him exactly 0 drinks.

congrats again, Jez, and I can’t wait until you’ve got a finished product!

typesetjez: I promised I would post some of my Excel graphs from NaNo when the challenge was over, so here you go.
