(she&rsquo;s off to 18F in San Francisco to save the world. she&rsquo;ll be amazing at it.)<\/p>\n<p>we became friends because the moment she walked into the room (incidentally, it was <a href=\"http:\/\/blogginaugust.com\/post\/117651432966\/more-oh-yeah-my-triumph-last-thursdayid\">the meeting with Mr. Shoes<\/a>), I decided she was probably the most interesting person I&rsquo;d yet encountered at ~the company~. I regretted not being able to say anything to her at the time, but that afternoon, we were both at an unrelated event, so because I didn&rsquo;t want to miss my opportunity again, I walked up to her and said, &ldquo;hi, we&rsquo;re going to be really good friends.&rdquo; literally, that is what I said. it reminded me quite a bit of <a href=\"http:\/\/maggie-stiefvater.tumblr.com\/post\/144420969186\/i-adore-the-friendships-in-the-raven-cycle-i-had\">Stiefvater&rsquo;s dubious life advice<\/a>. truth is, it&rsquo;s one of the most solid friendships I&rsquo;ve ever acquired. I highly recommend this method (with the right people).<\/p>\n<p>anyway, as you can see from the pictures, we find each other incredibly amusing. have I mentioned she&rsquo;s brilliant? she&rsquo;s brilliant. we can&rsquo;t even be in the same room for fifteen minutes without brainstorming a new project. we&rsquo;re that kind of friend. we finish each other&rsquo;s sentences.<\/p>\n<p>the other day, we went on a long walk. around the middle she punched me in the shoulder and announced that because we&rsquo;ve moved to casual touching, we must be close. then after just a beat, she asked how long I&rsquo;ve foreseen that we&rsquo;re going to be friends. no hesitation: I said &ldquo;the rest of our lives.\u201d it&rsquo;s one of those friendships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>it&rsquo;s my really good friend Nikki&rsquo;s last day at ~the company~ today and I&rsquo;m going to miss her like crazy.
