I<\/p>\n<p>test<br \/>the steaming water with one toe<br \/>and shuffle off my own dust cover<br \/>to step<br \/>and slide<br \/>in and under,<\/p>\n<p>holding the book above my head<br \/>like an umbrella. Then, spread<br \/>with my arms leaning on my legs,<br \/>I read, turning the pages<\/p>\n<p>with the tip<br \/>of my tongue.<\/p>\n<p>Later, while I scrub<br \/>idly<br \/>or shave my legs<br \/>with my right hand,<\/p>\n<p>I realise I\u2019ve gone<br \/>cover to cover (or nearly).<\/p>\n<p>The fingers of my left arm sulk<br \/>and strain, and I must<br \/>balance the book on my head<br \/>to flex the lameness out (and again<\/p>\n<p>till feeling returns).<br \/>Then I swap hands and finish<br \/>my story and scrubbing,<\/p>\n<p>to step out clean and complete,<br \/>steeped in someone else\u2019s<br \/>glistening words.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zenobia Frost<\/strong>\u00a0writes poetry in cemeteries, articles at a desk in a backyard rainforest, and to-do lists on receipts, bits of paper, the back of her hand, and flatmates\u2019 spare bits of skin. She writes, edits, and types for a living, and occasionally orchestrates cabaret events that are really an excuse to drink tea. Her work has appeared in\u00a0<em>Stylus<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Mascara<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Small Packages<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Burdock<\/em>\u00a0(USA),\u00a0<em>Rave Magazine<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Famous Reporter<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Voiceworks<\/em>, and she has performed at the Queensland Poetry Festival, Tasmianian Poetry Festival, and around Australia with the Queensland Touring Poets Program.
