{"id":22384,"date":"2012-12-27T05:18:59","date_gmt":"2012-12-27T05:18:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.augustwritesabook.com\/tumblr-backup\/2012\/12\/27\/ireallylikemuffins-somewherethats-green\/"},"modified":"2012-12-27T05:18:59","modified_gmt":"2012-12-27T05:18:59","slug":"ireallylikemuffins-somewherethats-green","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.augustwritesabook.com\/tumblr-backup\/2012\/12\/27\/ireallylikemuffins-somewherethats-green\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/ireallylikemuffins.tumblr.com\/post\/38921608330\/somewherethats-green-everyone-just-likes-to\">ireallylikemuffins<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/somewherethats-green.tumblr.com\/post\/38848706857\">somewherethats-green<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>everyone just likes to talk about how \u201cchill\u201d arnold was and just reminisce on the days when they used to watch hey arnold when they were 7 and how good it was etc etc but it\u2019s not until you watch it later on when you begin to realize that it\u2019s not a good show purely because of nostalgic value, but it is a good show purely becauseit is a good show.a lot of shows don\u2019t hold up, i mean like i freely admit some of the stuff i liked as a kid is not good and upon rewatching it as an \u201cadult\u201d i realize yeah this doesn\u2019t hold up<\/p>\n<p>but i appreciate hey arnold a lot more now than i did as a kid. i\u2019ve always loved it but you never quite realize just how \u2026 like, groundbreaking it is. it featured probably one of the biggest cast of characters i\u2019ve ever seen and each character was unique in their own way. they had realistic, flawed, rounded personalities and problems. the setting was also unique\u2014almost every show i\u2019ve seen takes place in the suburbs of someplace and the families are almost always upper-middle-class but hey arnold takes place in the inner city. arnold lives in a boarding house where many of the residents struggle to pay rent.<\/p>\n<p>on top of that, arnold isn\u2019t even necessarily the \u201cmain character\u201d of his own show. there are some episodes where he\u2019s hardly present at all. he\u2019s always there, but he\u2019s not always the focus. almost every single character got at least one episode dedicated to them, and helga is one of the best fictional characters i\u2019ve seen in my entire life<\/p>\n<p>idk it\u2019s just such a fucking good show and it doesn\u2019t sugarcoat anything<\/p>\n<p>helga has a shitty life. a really shitty life. not as shitty as it could be but it\u2019s pretty bad. her parents are neglectful. her dad is a hot-headed businessman who has no time for his family and her mother is a depressed alcoholic who fell out of love with her husband. they only spend time paying attention to helga\u2019s sister olga, who is completely out of touch with reality and strives to be as perfect as she can possibly be\u2014which isn\u2019t surprising, considering that\u2019s the thing her parents bring up constantly\u2014how perfect and great she is.<\/p>\n<p>the episode \u201cpigeon man\u201d teaches us that sometimes people who don\u2019t fit in just will never exactly fit in with everybody else\u2014and it\u2019s not their fault, it\u2019s the fault of other people. the christmas episode depicts the fall of saigon during the vietnam war, \u201cparents day\u201d reveals that arnold\u2019s parents went missing after their airplane vanished, etc etc. there are just so many stories that this show tells and it doesn\u2019t sugarcoat one of them, not a single one. some episodes end up with everybody unhappy. sometimes the main conflict isn\u2019t solved. at the end of \u201cthe list\u201d, an incredibly upset arnold pouts on the rooftop of the boarding house, but his grandma sings an old song that says he should just look up whenever he\u2019s feeling bad, and things will be okay. the main moral of the show, from what i have gathered, seems to be \u201creally crappy things happen all the time, and there\u2019s nothing you can do about it, but just keep looking up and you\u2019ll find happiness hidden away somewhere\u201d and i think that\u2019s probably the best message you can give to people.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This appeals to my HA! feels that I\u2019ve been having for the past week.<\/p>\n<p>I love this show so hardcore. I remember seeing the pilot air in the theater before Harriet the Spy. This show is not just nostalgia for me, but was probably a huge\u00a0therapeutic-like, honest cartoon that I could relate to sooooo much as a kid. &lt;3\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>omfg it&rsquo;s all on Netflix. I only got to see a few episodes of HA! as a child and oh MAN did I love it. especially Helga. she was the best character ever to get across the theme of &ldquo;we all just want to be understood&rdquo; without slamming it in your face with pretty speeches.
