Some thoughts on proposals (aka how my sister & I are opposites):<\/p>\n

To the man who decides to ask me to marry him, I have 6 things I\u2019d like for you to do when you decide to pop the question: 1.) Ask for my parents blessing. 2.) Make it a complete surprise. 3.) Use my full name 4.) Get down on one knee if you can. 5.) Have someone catch it on camera. 6.) make sure i\u2019ve painted my nails.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

1. I know this is tradition and whatever, but this has always rubbed me the wrong way. My parents do not have any say over my future or my love life and it is not up to them whether or not I marry you. Ask me and only me and if I should say yes, we will tell our parents together.<\/p>\n

2. Surprises are\u2026okay as long as we\u2019ve talked about the possibility. I like what John Green had to say about this: that it\u2019s unfair that men get to think for months about whether or not they want to marry a girl before they propose, but a girl only gets a few seconds to answer. I don\u2019t think that\u2019s okay. Marriage is about mutual trust and about having a life together. So I think it\u2019s something we should discuss together before it\u2019s actually offered.<\/p>\n

3. If you use my full legal name I will leave you. Anyone who uses my full name doesn\u2019t know me and therefore is not fit to marry me.<\/p>\n

4. I really don\u2019t care. Do what you want.<\/p>\n

5. While it may be cute to have it on camera, I don\u2019t want someone there to catch it. I don\u2019t want an audience for something that I think should be private and intimate. If you really want a photo, we can take engagement photos afterwards. That said, I hate the idea of public proposals. If you ask me via giant screen I will say no, whether or not I want to marry you.<\/p>\n

6. What. I don\u2019t know why this matters whether or not my sister is happy with the proposal. And besides, there\u2019s like a 99.9% chance my nails are painted at all times. I\u2019m painting my nails right now.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
