I just saw someone\u2019s FB favorite authors with portraits and they were all old white men and I cringed.<\/p>\n<p>my genres are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>humorous and\/or epic scifi &#8211; examples, The Icarus Hunt, Hyperion, The Android\u2019s Dream, The Alien Chronicles<\/li>\n<li>urban fantasy, but very specifically: Daughter of Smoke and Bone (and sequels), or Good Omens<\/li>\n<li>YA fantasy, but pretty specifically: Graceling series<\/li>\n<li>science and technology non-fiction<\/li>\n<li>erotica &#8211; literary, lgbt-friendly, preferring hopeful endings to \u201ceverything goes to shit\u201d<\/li>\n<li>myths, folktales, and fairy tales<\/li>\n<li>alternative\/magical history, a la Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>that would be very appreciated &#8211; I\u2019m attempting to broaden my library of perspectives! thanks!!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>My suggestions for you<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Akata Witch<\/em> by Nnedi Okorafor. YA fantasy; works with myths; fantastic world building.<\/li>\n<li><em>Green Grass, Running Water<\/em> by Thomas King. Adult fantasy, lots of myths\/folktales, similar to Neil Gaiman (American Gods especially). Please read this and love it so I can share it with someone.<\/li>\n<li><em>Magic or Madness<\/em> by Justine Larbalestier. Author isn\u2019t POC, but the MC is biracial and I think you would enjoy this.<\/li>\n<li><em>Adaptation<\/em> by Malinda Lo. I haven\u2019t personally read this one, but it\u2019s YA, sci-fi, LGBT, written by a POC<\/li>\n<li><em>Legend<\/em> by Marie Lu. Another I haven\u2019t read, but want to. YA Sci-fi dystopia (also, Anna gave it 4 stars)<\/li>\n<li><em>Rags and Bones,\u00a0<\/em>edited by Melissa Marr. Not 100% POC (but some authors in it are), I just remembered that you would probably like this and I never told you about it. Retellings of fairy tales.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/diversityinya.com\">Diversity in YA<\/a>!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>these all look fantastic &#8211; thank you!!!
